Situated in the Cape Town foreshore, 16 on Bree currently holds the accolade of being the tallest residential as well as the second tallest building developed in Cape Town in the last 20 years.
Aurecon’s client; FWJK Developments, conceived the development as an iconic high-rise to meet the demand in the property market for quality residential apartments. The key attractions of the development are its height and location offering residents unrivaled views of Cape Town’s natural scenic beauty, while still being within walking distance to the world-renowned V&A Waterfront, commercial hub, and CBD.

Having connected over 3000+ residential estates, complexes, and commercial buildings in and around Cape Town, Octotel was appointed as the Open Access Fibre Network provider on the project and responsible for the efficient reticulation of fibre throughout the building, ensuring reliable high-speed connectivity to all tenants. At full occupancy, the building houses over 1000 inhabitants.
Octotel has in the past collaborated with engineers on other key projects such as the luxury residential development The Docklands.
Any large project of this nature requires close collaboration with the professional team. It was a pleasure working with Jose Caldeira of FWJK and Tino Brink of Converge consulting in completing this successful project.

Octotel’s Projects Manager, Pieter Cordy stated that ‘‘one of the biggest challenges was coordinating access to the various risers and units given that approximately 30 contractors and their staff were on site on any given day. The site also had to close temporarily during the lockdown and strict protocols introduced to ensure the safety of not only our staff and but everyone working on-site’’

Enabled with Octotel Fibre; 16 on Bree offers unique features that include:
● Smart Home Automation System controlling lighting, temperature, and security (an optional extra)
● Access to DSTV over Fibre
● Creative workspace off the lobby to include formal meeting rooms and hot-desking with connectivity
● High speed fiber optic connectivity to every unit
‘‘16 on Bree forms part of the latest wave of development and redevelopment sweeping the central node, helping place Cape Town on a par with cities such as New York, London, and Hong Kong,” says Dr. Andrew Golding, chief executive of the Pam Golding Property group.

14,100 meters of cable and 546 hours later the build and project was finally complete and is to date, the tallest building connected to Octotel Fibre Networks.
